In 1940 the sign was change as only “Hollywood” when it was repaired under the contract between Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Los Angeles Parks Department. Their main idea was to highlight the city of Hollywood and not the housing development of Hollywoodland. Also it was figured out that its illumination of additional bulbs causes unnecessary cost of the sign and they were also removed after this renovation.
